چکیده

PurposeTo establish an objective method of [18F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) that can assist in the diagnosis glucose transporter 1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1-DS).MethodsFDG-PET was performed 8 patients with a mean age 12.5 years (range, 2–22 years) GLUT1-DS. Their PET findings were compared those 45 controls 11.2 2–21 by statistical parametric mapping (SPM12, Welcome Neurological Institute). The had epilepsy unknown etiology and normal MRI findings. age-adjusted ratios radioactivities regions interest (ROIs) bilateral lenticular nuclei, thalami, whole cerebral cortex also measured. sensitivities specificities for differential GLUT1-DS determined.ResultsSPM showed significantly decreased uptake thalami increased nuclei There no areas significant differences between controls. On ROI analysis, setting cut-off value nuclei/thalami radioactivity ratio to 1.54, differentiated from sensitivity 1.00 specificity 0.98.ConclusionThe on distinguish high specificity. It is important pay attention metabolism

Report on GLUT1 Deficiency Syndrome Conference

Dr. D.C. de Vivo (Professor of Pediatrics, Colombia University, New York) opens the conference with an overview on GLUT1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1DS) from 1991, when diagnosis of GLUT1DS was first made, until now. He describes the process of glucose metabolism in the brain. Glucose is transported across the blood-brain barrier into astrocytes and neurons by GLUT1 and GLUT3. In astrocytes, gluc...

Microscopic Nikolsky’s Sign: Is It Useful for Diagnosis of Pemphigus Vulgaris?

Background: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune blistering disease, caused by autoantibodies against desmoglein (Dsg) 3 and / or Dsg1 which induce the loss of adhesion between keratinocytes. Nikolsky's sign is the ability to induce peripheral extension of a blister as a consequence of applying lateral pressure to the border of an intact blister. If the weakening of the intercellular adhesi...

is the peak-to-mean pressure gradient ratio useful for assessment of aortic valve prosthesis obstruction?

background: the evaluation of prosthetic valves is very difficult with two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography alone. doppler and color flow imaging as well as transesophageal echocardiography are more reliable to detect prosthetic valve dysfunction. however, doppler study sometimes tends to be misleading due to the load-depending characteristics of peak and mean pressure gradients. the ...

Thyroxin Is Useful to Improve Sperm Motility

Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the non-genomic action of thyroxin on sperm kinetic and its probable use to improve sperm recovery after applying an enrichment method like “swim-up” in comparison with the available one, pentoxifylline. MaterialsAndMethods This is an experimental study. A total of 50 patients were recruited, followed by infertility consultation. Conventional sper...
